In this blog, we'll guide you through the steps to remove a video background in Premiere Pro, ensuring your projects look polished and engaging.

Steps To Remove Background From Video In Premiere Pro

Step 1: Import Your Video

Open Adobe Premiere Pro and start a new project or open an existing one. Import your video by going to File > Import, or simply drag and drop your video file into the project panel.

Step 2: Create a New Sequence

Once your video is imported, create a new sequence by dragging the video file onto the "New Item" icon at the bottom of the project panel. This will automatically match the sequence settings to your video's properties.

Step 3: Add the Ultra Key Effect

In the Effects panel, search for the "Ultra Key" effect. Drag and drop the Ultra Key effect onto your video clip in the timeline. This effect is specifically designed for chroma keying, which is essential for removing backgrounds.

Step 4: Key Out the Background

Select your video clip in the timeline and go to the Effect Controls panel. Under Ultra Key, you'll see a Key Color option. Use the eyedropper tool to select the color of the background you want to remove. Adjust the settings such as Matte Generation, Matte Cleanup, and Spill Suppression to fine-tune the removal of the background. These settings help in refining the edges and ensuring a clean key.

Step 5: Add a New Background

Import the background image or video you want to use and place it on a track below your keyed-out video in the timeline. This new background will now be visible behind your subject. Adjust the position and scale of both the background and the subject to fit perfectly.

Step 6: Export Your Final Video

Once you're satisfied with the result, export your video by going to File > Export > Media. Choose your desired export settings and click Export. Your video with the new background will be processed and saved.
