Canva makes this process straightforward with its easy-to-use video editing tools. In this blog, we'll walk you through the steps to add subtitles to a video on Canva, helping you create more inclusive and engaging content.

Steps to Add Subtitles To Canva Video:

Step 1: Sign In and Start a New Project

First, go to the Canva website and sign in to your account. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free. Once logged in, click on the "Create a design" button at the top right corner of the screen and select "Video" from the dropdown menu. This will open up a blank video project where you can start working on your video.

Step 2: Upload Your Video Files

After starting your project, you'll need to upload the video files you want to edit. Click on the "Uploads" tab on the left sidebar, which will bring up the upload panel. Click the "Upload media" button, and a file browser will open, allowing you to select the video files from your computer. Once selected, your videos will start uploading to Canva. This might take a few minutes depending on the file size and your internet speed. Once uploaded, you’ll see your video files in the "Uploads" tab.

Step 3: Add Your Video to the Timeline

With your videos uploaded, it’s time to start editing. Drag and drop your video clips from the "Uploads" tab onto the timeline at the bottom of the screen. The timeline is where you’ll assemble and organize your video. Arrange the clips in the order you want them to appear in your final video. You can drag the ends of each clip to trim them and adjust their duration on the timeline.

Step 4: Add Text Boxes for Subtitles

To add subtitles, click on the "Text" tab on the left sidebar to open the text options. Canva offers various text styles; choose one that fits the aesthetic of your video. Drag the selected text box onto your video clip in the timeline. Position the text box where you want the subtitles to appear, typically at the bottom of the screen. You can resize and move the text box by clicking and dragging it on the video canvas.

Step 5: Enter and Sync Your Subtitles

Click inside the text box to type in your subtitles. Make sure the text is legible by choosing an appropriate font, size, and color that contrasts well with your video background. To sync the subtitles with the audio, move the text box along the timeline to the point where the corresponding dialogue begins. Adjust the duration of the text box by dragging its ends to match the length of the spoken words. Repeat this process for each segment of your video, adding new text boxes for each subtitle line as needed.

Step 6: Export the Final Video

Once you're satisfied with your subtitles and overall video, it's time to export your project. Click the "Download" button at the top right corner of the screen. This will open the download options menu. Select your preferred video format (such as MP4) and quality settings (such as 1080p or 720p). Click "Download" again, and Canva will begin processing your video. This may take a few moments. Once processed, a download link will appear, allowing you to save the final video to your computer.
